FAQ

FAQ

Q: Who can apply for an internship in India through GTI?

A: In general, students of any major or degree (Assessment, Bachelor, Master) enrolled in the University of St. Gallen can apply for an internship with GTI. For further limitations regarding your degree or your major, please check the job requirements of individual organizations.

We also accept applications from students of other universities.

Q: Are all internships in a group?

A: Internships with partner NGOs of GTI are normally accomplished in groups of two to four (at most) students. Doing an internship in a group has the advantage that you can work with your fellow students on a major project. During the application process and the personal interviews, we will get to know you in person in order to form harmonizing teams. However, it is also possible to go alone to an organization.

Q: Do I get paid for the internship or what are my costs?

A: Internships with NGOs are not paid. You have to cover your own costs like flight tickets, boarding and lodging, and other expenses. If the accommodation is with the NGO, they charge a small daily rate for boarding and lodging. Approximate costs for a six-week long internship and 2 weeks of travelling (including all expenses like flight tickets, boarding and lodging, etc.) are 1’500 CHF.

In addition, Gateway to India demands a payment of 100 CHF from every intern for its services (placement of interns, workshop, Indian dinner and guidebook).

Q: What are the services of GTI and what lies within my responsibility?

In the case of being accepted as an intern with GTI, we place you with an Indian organization according to your preferences and skills. Furthermore, we invite you to a workshop and an Indian dinner where you get to know the other interns. The whole internship is organized by Gateway to India.

However, you have to book your own flights and get your visa on time. Once we have successfully placed you with an organization, we will establish the contact between you and your NGO. Then, it is your responsibility to clear the details regarding your date of arrival and your project.

We recommend you to carefully read the description of the NGOs as well as the interesting experience reports of former interns on our website. In the case of further questions, please feel free to contact us by e-mail (gti@myunisg.ch).
